How to be single and happy during the Covid19 pandemic
Have you been feeling depleted and lonely during this crazy moment our beautiful planet is going through?
I affirm that you are not alone.
In reality, the Coronavirus came to change the way you perceive yourself and the world around you.
It doesn’t matter if you are single or married, the challenges of facing the fear of contracting Covid19, dying because of it, losing your job, or losing a loved one are things we are all currently battling. There is negative and fearful energy that we can’t see, but we feel it. Nevertheless, to keep focus and maintain a positive mindset can be a struggle in this new normal.
I am going to share a few things that will help you to spice up this challenging moment.
Practice gratitude
Before the lockdown, humanity was used to living at a very fast pace. As soon as the world population realized that lockdown would be the key to contain the spread of the virus, people from all different paths started to realize that things would be completely different. The new normal way to live life has begun. Appreciate this time to be with yourself and be grateful for what you have.
Questions to ask yourself:
What have I been doing to stretch myself?
What kind of healthy routine can I create while I am still working from home?
Am I listening to my body’s needs?
Ideas to shake up your routine.
I love dancing. Latin music and dance fascinate me.
Since April, I have been watching and learning from the beautiful Spanish couple Basi and Desi who teach Salsa and Bachata on their Youtube channel. The good thing about these classes is that you don’t need a partner to learn the steps.
According to researchers conducted by professor Dr. Pablo Domene who is affiliated to the School of Life Sciences, Coventry University in the U.K., salsa dancing can not only help to build up physical endurance, but it can also boost brain function.
Dr. Domene says:
“We’ve seen from previous studies how salsa can benefit physical and mental health – but this was the first time we’ve shown how it could affect brain function.
The beauty of salsa is that people don’t perceive it to be exercise; they don’t think about it in the same way that they think about going to the gym. All our work is about encouraging people to be more active. If we can show people that these activities have health or cognitive benefits, it might help encourage more people to become more involved in this kind of physical activity.“
What about dating online?
In this incredibly difficult pandemic moment, if you change your mindset about dating, it could be a magical time to really get to know your future lover or partner through phone calls and chatting videos.
I read this super cool article in the New York Times written by Helen fisher: How Coronavirus Is Changing the Dating Game for the Better. Ms. Fisher is a biological anthropologist who has not only had 40 years of experience studying the dynamics of romance but also has been the chief science adviser of Match.com for the last 15 years. Ms. Fisher’s research with singles in the United States shows:
“This pandemic has forced singles to return to more traditional wooing: getting to know someone before the kissing starts.”
Her study has also found that: “Before Covid-19, only 6 percent of these singles were using video chatting to court. Now, 69 percent are open to video chatting with a potential partner, and a third already have an individual with whom they’d like to talk — via video.”
Before I met my husband, I would always give five dates to each candidate I met online. It amazes me that when you allow yourself to just be curious and enjoy the journey of dating each person, you will see the best version of each one. If that doesn’t happen, you always have the free will to move on. This means that you don’t need to wait for more than 5 dates to see if the person is right for you. The key is to allow them to be themselves. Don’t complain or push. Just let them show you their authentic self.
Considering that right now you are even more cautious in dating due to COVID19, it is a good idea to take this time to chat with different people. Choose a few prospective matches that you feel would connect best with your personality. Create virtual movie dates, breakfasts, or dinners. Have fun and enjoy the moment!
If dancing or dating online is not an option:
What about watching more comedies?
I have been watching the delightful comedian and actor Leslie Jordan’s Instagram videos. Oh boy is he hilarious?
Laughing is a wonderful remedy where endorphins are released by your brain and produce a feeling of joy and happiness.
While being single during these challenging times can have some negative effects, it can also motivate you to be creative, resourceful, and whole. Ultimately, have fun with yourself. Enjoy new things. Eliminate the old that is not serving you anymore and create a bold, new version of yourself.
Have a magical day!
